What do you mean, you "never thought this day would come"? Really?

What's turning you around?

I told you so. I'll be there tomorrow to watch you eat your words.

well i've never been a huge fan of ozu, i mean i like him and all. and kurasawa hasn't ever interested me either. so with that i hardly gave it a real chance. so i decided to change that. i got 'empire of passion' which i loved and then i bought 'pigs, pimps and prostitutes' as well which has been incredible. so with that i am starting to change my tune.

The fact that you spelled Kurosawa wrong tells me you still have a ways to go.

Masters of cinema just released a movie called Tokyo Sonata by Kyoshi Kurosawa it looks great.

OZU! What!?!

If I was a praying man, I would. For you. To see the light.

I'm with you on Kurosawa though. He's great -of course; but only very rarely does he really reach me. Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo, Seven Samurai were all fun. Rashomon is a hot lump of hysterical actor crap.

Is it too obvious to say that terms like 'Asian Cinema' are ridiculous and unhelpful?

I watched Oshima's 'In the Realm of Senses.' I didn't care for it, so I'm excited to hear that some of his other films are decent.

We haven't left Japan yet.

yes tokyo sonata looks awesome and i would love to see it. i am sorry to offend you matt about ozu. i will say that i loved 'late spring' and 'tokyo story' a little bit. but other than that. nothing.
outside of japan i guess there's wong kar wai and hou hsien. i probably spelled them wrong. but i am sure dave will let me know.
i really like those guys a lot actually. i have yet to be dissapointed by them.
it's tough because my heart belongs to the french. always. and i have had a hard time branching out. and so finally i am trying.
