Germany hey?!

Umm, so -Christopher Hitchens. Yeah, he loves to play the contrarian. And his tone is often less than admirable.

He's an asshole, sure, I guess. But sometimes assholes are great.

90% of the world's theists just wants to punch him in the crotch.

I don't know. I get it, why people don't like him. I'm uneasy with him too. But I think...

I like him. Some days more than others. I sort of appreciated the beating he gave me when I read that book.

this is what gets me about him. he dumbs down so many arguments in order to fit his point. as an example...when he is talking about the old testament, he says that moses wrote the pentateuch. which in some circles is believed but it is far from agreed upon. but in order to make his point, he doesn't even talk about the other possibilities. know what i mean? and that is not the only time he does that. stuff like that drives me nuts. and he is considered to be an intellectual too. that is what drove me nuts. he can say whatever he wants about what i believe i wasn't really offended that way, just with his lack of knowledge, or lack of willingness to discuss other options.
anyway...
going to germany on friday. meeting jeff there. he's in england right now. staying for a week and also going into poland. it's going to be awesome. i can't wait.

You are correct that he "dumbs down so many arguments in order to fit his point." That frustrates me too, especially since the larger argument he is constructing is one I basically agree with.

It's no fun agreeing with jerks or morons. In Christianity I had to suffer under morons mostly, and a few jerks. As an atheist now I suffer in agreeing with mostly jerks and a few morons.

So what have I learned? There are always ridiculous people who agree with me. Remembering that keeps me humble.
